Cardinal Torch Engages Leading Nigerian Media on Its Next Phase of Growth and Agricultural Value Addition

Cardinal Torch Company Limited recently hosted a Media Parley, bringing together representatives from leading Nigerian media organisations including BusinessDay, The Nation, Nairametrics, ThisDay, The Guardian, Vanguard and other respected publications. The engagement provided an opportunity for open conversations around the company's operations, strategic direction and contribution to Nigeria's agricultural value chain.

Coming shortly after the successful completion of the company's Series 1 Commercial Paper Issuance, the engagement also provided an opportunity to discuss Cardinal Torch's next phase of growth, its expanding investments in agro-processing, and the systems being developed to create long-term value across Nigeria's agricultural economy.

The session was led by Chief Executive Officer - Mr. David Olurin, alongside Executive Director - Mr. Akindele Bamitale, Head of Business Development and Commercial - Ms. Ndutimobong Sunday-Enang, and Chief Technology Officer- Mr. Emmanuel H. Mshelia, who engaged journalists in conversations spanning strategy, governance, operations, sustainability and the future of agricultural value addition in Nigeria

A Shared Vision for Nigeria's Agricultural Future

Opening the discussions, Chief Executive Officer Mr. David Olurin outlined Cardinal Torch's long-term vision of evolving beyond commodity trading into agro-processing and manufacturing. He explained that while Nigeria remains one of Africa's leading producers of agricultural commodities, much of the value created from these products is still realised outside the country due to limited local processing.

He noted that Cardinal Torch's ongoing investments are designed to change that narrative by increasing domestic value addition across key commodity value chains, beginning with cashew processing and extending into soybean, cocoa and future FMCG production. The conversation reflected the company's broader ambition of building a business that not only serves today's markets but also creates a lasting institution positioned for sustainable growth.

Building Value Beyond Processing

Speaking on the company's technical roadmap, Mr. Emmanuel H. Mshelia, Chief Technology Officer, shared how Cardinal Torch's investments are being designed to maximise value at every stage of production.

Beyond producing semi-processed cashew kernels and (ready-to-eat consumer) products, he highlighted plans to recover Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) from processing by-products while utilising cashew shells as boiler fuel to improve operational efficiency and minimise waste. He also outlined the company's planned investments across soybean oil extraction, cocoa processing and internationally certified manufacturing facilities capable of producing products that meet global quality standards.

His presentation reinforced Cardinal Torch's commitment to building sustainable value chain systems that connect farmers to local and international markets while transforming Nigerian agricultural produce into globally competitive products.

The cardinal Torch processing facility in Siun, Ogun State represents a key milestone in the company’s transition into integrated agro-processing and manufacturing, supporting it’s long term vision of increasing local value addition across Nigerian’s agriculural sector.

Strengthening Governance for Sustainable Growth

As the discussions turned to governance and expansion, Ms. Ndutimobong Sunday-Enang, Head of Business Development and Commercial, highlighted the systems that have supported Cardinal Torch's growth over the past six years.

She explained how strong corporate governance, disciplined risk management, regulatory compliance, commodity price hedging, and fraud prevention continue to strengthen the company's operations while providing confidence to investors and stakeholders. She also spoke about Cardinal Torch's commitment to sustainable sourcing, international compliance requirements, and responsible business practices as the company scales its operations.

Operational Excellence Behind Every Value Chain

Providing an operational perspective, Mr. Akindele Bamitale, Executive Director, encouraged participants to look beyond the visible movement of commodities.

He described Cardinal Torch as a supply chain organization whose strength lies in coordinating people, aggregation networks, warehousing, logistics, and operational systems that ensure agricultural commodities move efficiently from source to market. He emphasized that behind every successful shipment is a network of professionals whose expertise continues to drive the company's growth and operational resilience.

An Open Conversation with the Media

The interactive nature of the Media Parley allowed journalists to engage directly with the management team on issues affecting Nigeria's agro-processing sector.

Discussions covered energy requirements for manufacturing, infrastructure constraints, competitiveness, sustainability, commodity markets and the practical realities of building processing capacity within Nigeria. In response, the management team shared how Cardinal Torch is approaching these challenges through strategic planning, diversified operational systems, internationally recognised standards and long-term investment in resilient infrastructure.

The session also reinforced a broader message that sustainable industrial growth requires collaboration between government, industry, financial institutions and the media. By encouraging open dialogue, Cardinal Torch reaffirmed its belief that informed conversations are essential to strengthening Nigeria's agricultural ecosystem and unlocking greater value across the entire supply chain
